Can you believe this is already our third issue of the Manifest-
time is flying! We want to give thanks for your positive feedback
and suggestions. Your input lets us know we are making good on our
quest to provide a central hub of information for our industry.
One of us was sitting comfortably watching the season finale of one
of our Sunday shows, when we received a phone call from one of our
radio personalities who has contributed to the SFRM. He quickly
said hello and then proceeded to ask if we had heard the radio
station on frequency XXX.XFM (frequency withheld). He told us they
were playing some really nice Reggae music, and the voices on the
air sounded really good! After mumbling something along the lines
of “sure, I’ll check it out later” and a hastened goodbye while
trying to get back into the last ten minutes of the show, the
reality of what just happened finally hit! Here was a radio
personality from one South Florida radio station, calling us on a
Sunday night to tell us to tune into one of
his
competitors! We were astounded for a while, and then we remembered
that we all come from a unified place, one where we all share a
common love – the love for music! It didn’t matter who was playing
it, or where it was coming from – it was our beloved Reggae Music.
Our hats go off to him for sharing this information with us at the
SFRM and for allowing us to get the information to pass onto you,
our readers. Make sure you check the changes to the
Radio Schedule
on page five, and tune into the new additions. Which brings us to
another point... while researching the
Perils of the South Florida Reggae Promoters,
one promoter asked us to leave his name out of the article,
preferring not to be identified. Before we went to print, we
received a call early one morning from the very same promoter with
the simple message - go ahead and use my name! Another realization
of how far we have come within the short time of bringing you
'News We All Can Use.’
We once again present our regular features;
South Florida Reggae Radio Directory,
Sound System/Selector Top Twenty,
Sights & Sounds,
Each One Teach One,
and, of course,
Reggae All Over.
This month’s we include news from Great Britain on the sudden
passing of reggae/ska great, Desmond Dekker. This legendary artist
has the distinction of being the first reggae artist to chart in the
United States and is regarded by many as the precursor to reggae’s
first
bona fide
superstar Bob Marley.
We are very pleased with the advertising inquiries we’ve been
getting from you all. Keep in mind that our special introductory
rates will only be available for a few more months. Don’t miss out-
contact our sales department today! Until next month everybody…
Nuff Love,
